Betas are very smart and can be trained to perform basic commands like come and to follow a target. Buddy is trained to target to assist with performing health exams and to be able to provide positive reinforcement training to promote social behavior. He allows for his body to be touched with a stick which is also part of his training exercises.

Buddy passed away in 2020 and was approximately 5 yrs old.
