Chocolate brings joy to the tastebuds, creates a topic of conversation and is the center of economic revenue for so many holidays. But there is so much more that goes into making a single bar of chocolate than what meets the eye and many have no idea of the complexity of the the social, economical and environmental interplay that takes place to transform a cocoa bean to that delightful, smooth bar.
Moreover, cocoa trees grow in regions that have a very niche ecosystem and have a great number of endangered species of plants and animals, including the native and historical cocoa strains that are more rare to come by. This blog is created to discuss those topics which many have never even considered and give a whole new understanding of the process of cocoa production, as well as bring awareness to endangered species in theses regions, in addition to socioeconomical considerations.
No promises on how often I'll have time to post but I figure just getting the conversation started and bringing some insight is better than nothing at all.
So here is the first of what I hope will be the beginning of many...

However, there are also efforts being made to promote sustainable cocoa production, including initiatives to promote agroforestry, biodiversity conservation, and fair trade practices.
By raising awareness about these issues, consumers can make more informed choices about the chocolate they consume and support efforts to promote sustain able and ethical cocoa production. This can include choosing chocolate that is certified as fair trade, organic, or sustainably sourced, and supporting initiatives that promote sustainable farming practices and support small-scale farmers.
